What is Forrest Fest & Where Is It?

Forrest Fest is a multi discipline arts festival held annually in Lamesa, Texas, and the only poetry festival in the south plains of the West Texas cap rock. It is Located in Forrest Park, which runs along Sulphur Draw, home to a 50-year-old growth of Willow, Elm and Pecan trees. Free RV parking and tent camping is available in the park. We are child, elder and pet friendly.



Who Goes There?

The festival features local, area, and international poets, writers, story tellers, artists and musicians, and is dedicated to advancing literacy and multi-cultural exchange on the caprock. It draws members of the academic community as well as folk musicians and acclaimed community poets.

What Happens at Forrest Fest?

The festival will begin on Friday evening in downtown in the Lamesa Courtyard. Saturday morning a tree planting dedicated to the future of Forrest Park and the Festival, precedes workshops, and a BBQ. Afternoon poetry and/or art workshops and storytelling as well as open mic venues.

Saturdays events include performances by international and local poets as well as announcements of poetry contest winners. Evening performances for an (PG13) audience by regionally recognized poets and musicians, followed by round robin open mic readings conclude the event. Festival attendees will be also able to view work by invited artists. The work will be on display throughout the event. Members of Forrest Park Poets will be available to assist visitors with registration. Forrest Fest is a drug and alcohol free event.

The City of Lamesa helps fund the fest, Claiborne's Food Store and United Food Stores support for our BBQ, and Wes-Tex funded our tree donation in 2006.
