Welcome to Forrest Fest 2012!

Forrest Fest is celebrating its twelth year of service to the Dawson County community. Forrest Fest is a 501(C)3 whose mission is to provide literary access to a culturally diverse, economically depressed rural community. International Poets, musicians and artists gather every year during National Poetry month to share their work with school children, assisted living centers and the community as well as participate in workshops, open mic poetry and performance opportunities. Activities vary from live radio appearances and music concerts at the local drive inn theater, to the presentation of a contemporary mass and a lineup of poets from academia to the streets of London, outbacks of Australia, and the hill country of Texas.
The background of our artists range from the university, traditional poets, slam poets, spoken word artists, cowboy poetry, celtic music and middle eastern music to the purely sublime antics of spontaneous improvisation. Wagons West Ya'll, hitch 'em up and head on out to the round up of the Voices of the West in Lamesa, Texas. Celebrate earth day in Forrest Park as we plant a tree, serve up a traditional Texas BBQ (got vegan for those who don't BBQ), and enjoy the family oriented atmosphere of our big 'ole poetry picnic. We are child and pet friendly. Forrest Fest has free tent and RV camping. Forrest Fest is a drug and alcohol free event.
